Pasadena Breast Augmentation
What is a Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation (or Breast Implant Surgery) is a cosmetic procedure performed to increase the size or fullness of the breast. Many women opt for this procedure to enhance their appearance and provide better proportion of the body.
About Breast Augmentation Surgery
Not every breast augmentation procedure is the same. When you decide to have your surgery, you have several options including the size breast you would like to achieve, the type of implant you would like to use and where you would like your incision to be located.
Your breast augmentation procedure will be performed under general anesthesia at our fully accredited surgery center. An incision will be made in the location that has been discussed with your surgeon. The implant is then inserted under the muscle and positioned to create a natural looking appearance. The incision is then closed. Absorbable sutures are used for comfort and convenience.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Recovery after breast augmentation surgery is relatively quick. You will only need to take a few days off of work and should be able to return to normal activities after a week. Strenuous activities such as working out may be resumed approximately one month after surgery. Immediately after your breast augmentation procedure you may experience some swelling and bleeding. Any pain can be alleviated with medication prescribed by your surgeon. You will receive instructions at your post operative appointment about how to massage your breasts to help ensure natural looking results.
Which Implant Size is Best for My Body?
The amount of liquid or gel used to fill the implants are measured in CCs. However, that is not the best way for the patient to determine how large she would like her breasts to be. The number of CCs vary from patient to patient to achieve the desired look and are impacted by the current size, fullness and amount of breast tissue of the patient. To achieve your desired look it is recommended that you bring in a photograph of a woman with the size breasts you desire. It is also helpful if you describe an approximate bra size you would like to achieve.
To achieve the most natural looking results, it is best to select a size that will compliment the other contours of the body and provide even proportion. Breasts that are too large for your body may cause pre-mature sagging in the future and/or stretch marks. Your surgeon will recommend a size and discuss your options with you at your complimentary consultation.
Silicone vs. Saline Implants
Both Silicone and Saline implants are approved for use by the FDA. There has not been significant evidence to suggest that breast implants of either type cause cancer or any other disease.
Saline implants consist of a soft, flexible silicone shell filled with sterile saline solution. Implants can be filled either prior to the surgery or intra-operatively.
Silicone implants also consist of a soft, flexible silicone shell, but instead are filled with a silicone gel. The texture of the gel is similar to the texture of a gummy bear. In the event of a rupture, the substance remains intact to its other parts. When selecting silicone implants, you are able to select the shape, volume and profile you would like. The implant is filled and sealed prior to your procedure.
Breast Augmentation patients must be at least 18 years of age for silicone implants and 22 years of age for silicone implants, as regulated by the FDA.
Incision Options
Four incision options are currently available for breast augmentation surgery. Implants can be inserted through the aerola, under the fold of the breast, through an incision in the armpit or through the belly button. Your surgeon will discuss which options are best for you, your body type and the look you want to achieve.
