Tummy Tuck
What is a Tummy Tuck?
Extreme fluctuations in weight, pregnancy or heredity can cause the muscles in the abdomen to loosen and excess skin to sag. In most cases this can not be corrected through diet and exercise. This is why tummy tuck procedures are becoming increasingly more popular. This cosmetic surgery procedure will restore and tighten the abdominal muscles, remove excess skin and leave you with a beautifully contoured mid-section.
About Your Tummy Tuck Procedure
Each procedure is highly individualized and varies slightly based upon the amount of excess skin to be removed and your body type. Liposuction is often performed during a tummy tuck procedure to achieve aesthetic goals. This will be discussed with your plastic surgeon at your complimentary consultation.
All tummy tuck procedures are performed under general anesthesia, administered by board certified anesthesiologists for your safety. Your surgeon will make an incision from hip to hip, between the naval line and the pubic region. The length and placement of your incision will be determined by your surgeon and discussed wit h you prior to your procedure. Through the incision, muscles are repaired and sutured. Excess skin, tissue and fat are then removed and the incision sutured. A second incision may be necessary to remove additional skin in the upper abdomen. Tummy Tuck Recovery
Immediately after your tummy tuck surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling and bleeding. Any pain can be alleviated by medication prescribed by your surgeon. It may be difficult to sit up and fully extend your stomach for a week or two, but after that time you should be able to return to work and regular activities. Strenuous activities can be resumed approximately one month after your procedure.
It is important to follow all pre and post operative instructions to ensure optimal results.
